    Hi Michael

I am using your plugin with the premium extensions ZIP and Email.

Since some time (a month or so) I've noticed that the backup is not effective: they seem to never end.

Backup started on 2012-09-09 at 21:39:23
Backup started on 2012-09-01 at 21:44:11
Backup started on 2012-08-26 at 02:54:05

As you can see, there is no "backup completed" anymore.

The other problem is that I don't get notified either by email. So in the end, nothing works.

Could you maybe help me there? What kind of log can I provide you?

    Thank you very much
    Manu

    Hi Michael

I see that you are active on the forums and that you help everybody, so maybe you just forgot me?

I still have the issue, the backup starts but never ends... so it's useless and I work without backup now.

    Any idea ?

    Thanks a lot Michael

    Michael please

I bought the 2 premium extensions... and the plugin is not working for me at all anymore.

Could I have any kind of support from you ?

I'm starting to really regret I invested in the plugin...

I am not sure but it actually seems that it is the upload of the .zip that never ends.

So after a bit of investigation:

    * The core plugin doesn't work either, even when i disable the .zip package
    * The .zip plugin doesn't work: it gets stuck at uploading the file
    * The email notification doesn't work: I never got any notification of anything

    Help is welcome :)

    Thanks!

    Gday mate,

Sorry for the lack of reply. I have been focussed on getting 1.3 out!

Now that it is can you please updated and run a backup with no extensions installed and then post the log here?

    Cheers,
    Mikey

    Hi Michael!

    Uff, you´re back, thanks :)

So this is what I´ve done:
    * Uninstaller the plugin fully and reinstall the latest version
    * Disabled the premium extensions
    * Started a new backup (it started a few hours after I pressed the button but ok)
    * And the log says... "08:49:14 : Backup started on Friday October 5, 2012."

That´s it! No more info.. Any idea ?

    Thanks!!
    Manu

Do any files make it to Dropbox?
What are your PHP time and memory limit set to?

Indeed there are a few files on my dropbox. But as you can see it seems to be stuck.

About the PHP time and memory limit: correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm on a virtual host, so I cannot access this information. The only thing is that it used to work, and I don't think they changed the limit.

Do you want me to ask this information to my host provider ?

As mentioned in the FAQ: http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/wordpress-backup-to-dropbox/faq/

Sometimes hosts implement measures to prevent long running tasks like a backup. To circumvent this I have implemented a backup monitor that restarts the backup if it is terminated before it is fully completed. So it is quite normal to see up to ten or more backup restarts.

    Hallo Michael

I got more information from my provider:

The 'memory_limit' is set at 128MB for each script in the PHP
configuration. Also, the amount of simultaneous processes is 2.

When I go now to the BPB2DP log file, it says that it is 123% complete...

Do you think all my issues can simply be due to the fact that my configuration is not powerful enough ?

    Thanks a lot!!
    Emmanuel

    Gday mate,

The percentage is just an estimation and will be more accurate in subsequent backups. It turns out that my estimation was off for many blogs and I will update it for the next release.

    Cheers,
    Mikey

    Hey thanks for answer!

Do you think increasing the power of my host can make the backup faster ?

    Cheers!

Unfortunately a more powerful server will only get you so far.

Network latency and Dropbox processing the upload takes the most time. And that something that cant be controlled.

    Cheers,
    Mikey

    Thanks Mikey

In my case do you consider it's smart to use the .zip extension? I prefer it but when I use it it seems to never ends the upload. Same for email notifications, I never received any

    Hi Mikey

My host provider had a look at the situation and confirmed that my instance is only allowed to run 2 processes at the same time, and therefore has impact on your plugin.

So I think I just have to upgrade my hosting. Will keep you updated
