Let me just start by saying that I'm totally new to WordPress, so I have a lot to learn. I originally installed the program (2.5.1) using Fantastico on my CPanel. But now there's a new version, so I installed the WordPress Automatic Upgrade plugin. (Fantastico hasn't offered 2.6 yet.)
I just tried to run the plug-in and it worked fine up until it tried to put the site into maintenance mode and I got an error message that it couldn't do that, and try again later (!?). So I followed the link given to the forum:
http://forum.techie-buzz.com/topic.php?id=46&page&replies=1
And found this instruction:
.Try changing all folder permissions to 777 and then running the plugin, once that is done go back and change the file permission to 644
How do I change "all folder permissions"? I'm guessing I do this by CHMOD and FTP? But how do you change all the permissions.
It seems by reading that forum that many people aren't getting the help they need with this plug-in. Or else I just haven't found the right place to look, which is entirely possible.
Is it worth waiting until Fantastico offers the WordPress upgrade and then using that method?
Thanks for any and all input!!
