[Plugin: W3 Total Cache] WordPress MU and theme questions (11 posts)

I'm using WordPress MU (specifically v2.8.6). All blogs are going to use the same theme. Some questions.

    1) Is the correct way to install this for MU is to put it in /wp-content/plugins/ and then do the "Activate Site-wide"? Or are we suppose to put it in /wp-content/mu-plugins/? (I currently have it on former).
    2) On MU, does that mean every blog have to be configured separately?
    3) I use "sub-directories" for MU. So blogs are like http://localhost/blog_name_1/, http://localhost/blog_name_2/, etc... The problem is with the CDN on, it will look for a CSS style like "http://bucket.s3.amazonaws.com/blog_name_1/wp-content/themes/default/style.css", "http://bucket.s3.amazonaws.com/blog_name_2/wp-content/themes/default/style.css", etc.. even though they are using the same theme. So in the CDN it has multiple paths to the same theme content (http://cdn_path/blog_name/wp-content/...).
    4) How do you use the CSS/JS minify? I assume we have to use the CSS/JS file management and manually add each file right? But how do you put it in the theme? Is there a function we have to use? Does this also mean, every time we switch themes this process of putting the files has to be done?
    5) What is the difference between "Disk (basic)" and "Disk (enhanced)" for page caching?

    Thanks

    Yes.

On MU, does that mean every blog have to be configured separately?

Yes, but in many cases you can simply copy and rename the settings file if you like.

I use "sub-directories" for MU.

That is how CDN is supposed to work and the logic should not be changed for this case, which is an uncommon exception case.

How do you use the CSS/JS minify? I assume we have to use the CSS/JS file management and manually add each file right?

    Yes.

But how do you put it in the theme? Is there a function we have to use?

If wp_footer() and wp_head() are used in your theme, you have to do nothing. If not, check the plugin's FAQ for details.

Does this also mean, every time we switch themes this process of putting the files has to be done?

Yes of course, if the templates, CSS and JS you use are different.

What is the difference between "Disk (basic)" and "Disk (enhanced)" for page caching?

Basic mode doesn't use .htaccess, and enhanced mode does. Also, in most cases advanced mode is 50% faster than basic mode.

When I activate the plugin in WPMU, I get:

Plugin could not be activated because it triggered a fatal error.

Nothing in error logs, sadly. :(

@fredericktownes: I'm having unusual difficulty getting w3 total cache installed on a new wordpress MU installation. I keep getting a fatal error when trying to activate the plugin site wide. wp-content is currently set to 777 and chowned by apache.

Any place you can suggest to look for a hint?

Thank you in advance (also thanks for a great plugin!)

Is it normal that w3 total cache doesn't appear in the "Currently Active Site Wide Plugins"-list when I activate it site wide (WPMU 2.9.2)?

Site wide activation is not supported (yet).
