   It seems as if the feed is not updated automatically when submitting a new post?

   I've checked this option "Cache feeds: site, categories, tags, comments". And I'm not using Feedburner.

   The feed relies on the expires value on the browser cache settings tab for HTML. The development version of the plugin offers more advanced cache purging policies.
