APC crashes when I use it with Object Cache (6 posts)

I have installed on Debian x64 the Opcode APC 3.0.19. As cache file, APC uses a large file: 512MB (my VPS has 2GB of ram).

Everything goes well, I have setted W3TC to use APC for Page Cache, Minify Cache, Database Cache and Object Cache: the amount of cached files in APC is only 150MB, but once or twice a day my server crashes.

But if I don't use APC for Object Cache, everything is very stable. But I don't want to use "disk" as Object Cache method because is slower then APC.

Do you know about any problem or issue or bug?

Have you identified what is happening in error logs when the server crashes?

my server doesn't keep a real log (is a particular service), but I have seen that just right before the crash there was an unusual high usage of ram (about 500MB in total, but the serve has 2GB so I don't know). Usually my vps taks 200/300MB of ram.

Unless there are error logs troubleshooting is quite hard.

    I have had these error.
Firstly an unusual peak of ram usage (normally 200MB, the peak was 500MB or more, my graph doesn't show exactly what the situation was) and got error:

[Tue Sep 14 12:55:11 2010] [error] (12)Cannot allocate memory: fork: Unable to fork new process
[Tue Sep 14 12:55:33 2010] [warn] child process 19060 still did not exit, sending a SIGTERM
[Tue Sep 14 12:55:39 2010] [error] child process 19060 still did not exit, sending a SIGKILL

    and then

[Tue Sep 14 12:55:40 2010] [notice] caught SIGTERM, shutting down
    [Tue Sep 14 12:55:56 2010] [apc-error] apc_mmap: mkstemp on /dev/shm/apc.ipIvTl failed: Permission denied

Without using Object Cache, APC has worked well.

Can you show these errors to your hosting provider? You have a fundamental software issue on your server. The use of APC for object cache is no different than any other caching type.
