    It might be a bit of CSS in your theme that’s adding extra padding/margin between the label and the input.

    If you provide a link to your site I can take a look.

    There’s a
    tag being inserted. The plugin doesn’t output that
    so it’s something else (most likely JavaScript) that’s doing it.

    Switch to the Twenty Eleven theme and see if the form outputs properly. If it does, then you know the problem is with your theme.

    It is the theme – I checked against another form on a different theme and the problem goes away.

    Without sounding like a complete nonce – is this an easy fix or do I learn to live with it?

    Not sure how easy it is to fix. It all depends on how integrated that JS file is to your theme.

    I’d first try contacting the theme author and ask if there’s a fix. If that doesn’t work, you can either switch themes, try to fix it yourself, or just live with it.
