I did the update as usual via WordPress updates. After updating this plugin i tried viewing who has been online. Got some kind of popup notification that something didn't exist, i should have screen shot the error but didn't think much of it at the time.
Trying to load my site all the CSS was missing. Trying to log in i got an error that wp-login.php was not found. Tried deleting this plugin didn't help. I ended up restoring the previous plugin from a backup and restored my database from a dump done early last night and got the site back up.
Possibly the .htaccess in the WordPress root directory could have been bumbled. I noticed a deny from statement = but no associated ip. I use my own .htaccess in the sites root so maybe they were conflicting with each other.

Sounds like a bug to me. I will have it fixed in a jiffy!
This bug is fixed in version 1.0.9. Thank you for reporting it. Sorry for the inconvenience.
To fix your site, you simply needed to delete "deny from " from the end of .htaccess.

Please help! I also get the error as below. Then I can't navigate anywhere in the site without getting an Apache error. How can I disable this plugin if I can't get into the site... at all?
Warning: ereg() [function.ereg]: REG_EMPTY in /home/content/76/5945076/html/blog/wp-content/plugins/visitor-maps-extended-referer-field/visitor-maps-extended-referer.php on line 41

OK, I figured out how to get FTP access, and removed deny from, from .htaccess.
Can anyone tell me what happened, and how to prevent this from happening again?
@robertwagnervt, if you update to version 1.1.0 it shouldn't happen anymore.
