• I have Videopress on my WP.com account and purchased it so I could insert videos into my standalone WP site. Installed the Videopress plugin, but when I hit the icon it asks me to login to my WP.com acct but then it can’t reach the site.

    I’ve tried in both Firefox and IE, nothing. Here’s the error in Firefox:

    Secure Connection Failed

    An error occurred during a connection to mysite.com.

    SSL received a record that exceeded the maximum permissible length.

    (Error code: ssl_error_rx_record_too_long)

    Other times I click on the icon and it just hangs…

    Any ideas?

    OK, it seems that in order to use this plugin you have to have a SSL cert for your site!

    However NOW I get this error:

    “Cannot load video-plugin.”

    Any progress on this? I just encountered the same issue. What’s strange is I have another blog set up that works fine (without SSL), I have no issue connecting to my wordpress.com account through the videopress plugin when I add a video. I can’t imagine a SSL cert would be required for this. Has to be some other issue.

    Where are you hosting your blog? The one that works for me is on Site5 and the one that doesn’t is on Bluehost.

    Going to try and contact the author of the plugin to see if they can help.

    Is your WordPress.org powered blog using SSL as well? I wonder if it is having a fit because it loads an iframe over SSL from *.wordpress.com.

    My bad…both blogs are currently hosted by the same provider (bluehost.com) and neither have SSL cert on them.

    I have a dedicated server. Even after the SSL cert I still had problems, when I tried to log in with my primary WP.com account in the popup window from my blog admin area, it would loop me to the login for my site.

    My solution was to create a separate WP.com account, give THAT account permission to access the blog that hosts the videos, and then I was able to successfully log in and use the plugin from WordPress. I still don’t know why my main WP.com login (which was used to purchase Videopress and owns the WP.com blog that hosts it) didn’t work.

    Trying creating a new WP.com account without a blog, give that access to Videopress and see if that works.

    The only user limitation is that the account needs to have permissions to upload to the WPCOM blog. So if you created the blog, your account is admin on that blog, there shouldn’t be any problems.

    When logged in as the problem user on WPCOM do you have any problems uploading videos directly? (not using the plugin)

    Anything else different between the two blogs? Different plugins, themes, specific settings?

    To see if any other themes or plugins are getting in the way switch to the default theme, disable all of the plugins (except for videpress obviously) and try it again.

    One thing i notice is happening is when I log into blog #2 (where VP is not working) on WPCOM, I am automattically forwarded to my hosted blog. I also get forwarded to my hosted blog when I click on “New Post” in top nav on WPCOM.

    This does not happen when I log into blog #1 (where VP is working.)

    I’m wondering if blog #2 does not see the blog I have set up on WPCOM for it. Maybe a setting is missing on the WPCOM side?

    I was finally able to get into the blog #2 admin on WPCOM and was able to upload video. I posted the shortcode but nothing is getting displayed. I’m also no longer seeing the example you guys dropped in for the branded player.

    Here is my test. I uploaded two videos just to make sure it wasn’t an error with my file.

    There is literally no difference in host or plugins from blog #1 to blog #2. They have the same plugins versions as well. only difference is the presentation layer and content.

    The good news is that the two videos at that URL are working now.

    The redirect when you log in is probably because of the ‘Primary Blog’ setting for your profile. Try changing that and see if the redirect stops.

    Were the videos working when you looked at the URL or did you do something on your side?

    I fixed the redirect issue by making that change.

    Still getting the SSL error when logging in from a post on my hosted blog.

    Going to try switching themes & deactivate plugins next.

    I switch the theme to the default and disabled all the plugins except for the videopress plugin. Still getting the SSL error when trying to log in from the hosted blog into the videopress plugin.

    Should i try vich11’s suggestion of creating a new WPCOM account without a blog and give that access to the videopress?
