PMP really is more of a shop plugin for selling subscriptions. It lacks some basic membership features, they are:

    - not able to add custom fields - which is required to harvest needed information for the different membership products

    - emailing notices or product announcements to members is not integrated

    - - - - - - - -

If you need your members to fill out different registration forms for each membership product, you best use WP-Members along with PMP or WP-Members with a subscription plugin.

PMP is really well designed and supported with regular timely updates. It does not quite meet the requirements as a membership plugin. What I like is the member can cancel their membership or upgrade to higher level of subscription.

FWIW, we plan to tackle both of your feature requests via plugins to run alongside PMPro.

For custom fields, we have instructions for adding these via code, which we hope to port into a more user friendly plugin.

For emailing members, we believe that 3rd party email tools (e.g. MailChimp, Aweber) should be used for these kinds of emails. We have plugins for these in development.

In the meantime, we can help our paying support and "do it for me" customers set these things up on their sites.

    Hi Stranger Studios,

Thank you for your responses. The email solutions you present requires a monthly fee and a hosted solution. There are a sizable number of individuals who do not want to pay monthly, they would rather pay a one time fee and have the application to be self hosted. It is quite unfortunate that PMP will go the way for offering email, as a hosted solution (3rd party) while other WP membership plugins have eloquently integrated email.

I know that integrating an email script seems to me, is a key role in communicating with members - this includes for each membership level:

    - newsletters
    - announcements
    - rule or policy changes
    - up selling membership upgrades
    - coupon/discount offers
    - welcome to new members
    - confirmation on membership status

These emails could be sent to all membership levels or just a specific one. Why has PMP not considered this a prime function of a membership script escapes me.

This topic surely makes for a great pre-sales question.
