Ultimate TinyMCE
[resolved] Shortcodes button (62 posts)

    Update:
    I made other test: installed a fresh WordPress 3.4.1 (same server, just a subdomain), then installed Ultimate TinyMCE 2.8 and loaded default settings, went to edit sample page and ... same issue.

    Are you using the new shortcodes button? The old one with the dropdown is gone. There is now a new button for shortcodes, which needs to be activated from within the settings page.

    Josh, version 2.8 works in WP ver. 3.5 beta (single version). I tested the shortcodes button and everything works fine. Shortcodes display and appear in the post when clicked on.

    Version 2.8 doesn't work in WP 3.4.1 Multi. Shortcodes display is blank.

    Tested both on a same local server. I haven't tested the possibility of another plugin conflict. I'll test and if there is, I'll post back.

    Ron

    UPDATE

    Went through all my plugins and there doesn't seem to be a conflict.

    I wonder if there is a difference in WP 3.5 in the way plugins are called or displayed? That would explain why it works there but not in the current version.

    Thanks Ron,

    Well, I'm using it on version 3.4.1 with no problems. And my test site is in a subfolder. So, I don't think it's a WordPress version thing.

    I haven't been able to identify why it's only working across various installations. It uses the global $shortcodes to generate the list...

    Are you using it on the single install of ver. 3.4.1? That could be a clue since I have a problem with it on ver. 3.4.1 MultiSite.

    It does sound like a folder, or directory, problem.

    I get the box for the shortcodes, but it is blank. No error message either.

    No, mine is not a multisite.

    Okay, I'll need to look into it a little more. I'm getting ready to take the kiddo to a theme park for the day. It'll be late tonight before I get a chance to get back into this.

    Josh, you made the right call taking your daughter to the theme park.
    She should be priority one.

    I'll look into this when I get a little more time and see if I can find the problem.

    Is there any way to get the old shortcuts pulldown menu back ? Well; apart from re-installing an older version of the plugin, which I intend to do.

    So far I enjoyed the plugin and this option is actually the one I use most often. Unfortunately with the latest updates the pulldown menu has become a pop up window and I really dislike that behaviour.

    My main gripe is that the window overlaps my screen (I'm using 1024x768 on my main computer), and I simply liked the pulldown menu a lot better. The menu didn't take my attention away from the stuff I'm writing; I think a pop up window merely because of the window is a tad silly.

    Kind regards,

    Peter

    Well, the core of WordPress has changed, which is why the dropdown selections are no longer working.

    You can always revert back to a previous version... but sooner or later, it's going to stop working. WordPress is alive... and constant updates will continue to be released.

    This popup is the only solution I could find to the shortcodes issue, given the five days I worked on this getting it to function properly. Granted, it's not perfect. But, it's the best I can do with my coding knowledge.

    I'll try to look into a dropdown button again, once I get some other (more pressing) issues off my back.

    Sorry for the inconveniences.

    Okay... I'm setting up a multisite test site right now. I'll make this multisite thing my next big project... as if I don't already have enough to do ;)

    I would appreciate if anyone who reads this who has not joined in to let me know if it's working or not.. and what settings you use on your blog (single or multi site, subdomain or subdirectory, etc).

    Also, those of you using multisite... what types of features would you like to have?

    Josh,

    You are good man for following through on this. I have already given you as much information as I can. Will certianly test (on single site) as soon as updates come through.

    When you do finally crack it... I'll definitely be dropping a little something in the donation box.

    Onya bro !

    Well.. here is the solution to the multisite... let's see if it hopefully filters down to the other issues... (FINGERS CROSSED)...

    Open ultimate-tinymce/shortcodes/shortcodes.php

    At the very top, change this:

    <?php
    // Hook into WordPress so we can use all the custom functions and global variables
    $file = dirname(__FILE__);
    $file = substr($file, 0, stripos($file, "wp-content") );
    //require( $file . "/wp-load.php");
    require( $file . "/wp-admin/admin.php");
    require( $file . "/wp-admin/includes/admin.php");
    ?>

    To this:

    <?php
    // Hook into WordPress so we can use all the custom functions and global variables
    $file = dirname(__FILE__);
    $file = substr($file, 0, stripos($file, "wp-content") );
    // Added for multisite
    $file2 = dirname(__FILE__);
    $file2 = substr($file, 0, stripos($file2, "wp-content") );
    //require( $file . "/wp-load.php");
    require( $file . "/wp-admin/admin.php");
    require( $file2 . "/wp-admin/includes/admin.php");
    ?>

    Let's see what that does...

    EDIT: Dang.. I still see the notice at the top in debug mode... hmmm.... Oh well, this should still work for the multisite people.

    Going to work on the notice now...

    Josh, it works! I forgot to change the last line at first ($file to $file2) and it didn't work. Went through uninstalling and reinstalling, then finally realized my mistake.

    It will be worth it for you to have a test MultiSite install. A lot of users are going that direction.

    Ooops... that's my fault. You are correct. It should read like this:

    <?php
    // Hook into WordPress so we can use all the custom functions and global variables
    $file = dirname(__FILE__);
    $file = substr($file, 0, stripos($file, "wp-content") );
    // Added for multisite
    $file2 = dirname(__FILE__);
    $file2 = substr($file2, 0, stripos($file2, "wp-content") );
    //require( $file . "/wp-load.php");
    require( $file . "/wp-admin/admin.php");
    require( $file2 . "/wp-admin/includes/admin.php");
    ?>

    Hi Josh,

    Above code tested. All is good except for...

    I'm seeing the "Insert Shortcodes" pop-up panel and just above the WP image - I see this error:

    [blockquote]"Notice: Undefined offset: 1 in /*******/public_html/wp-includes/vars.php on line 28"[/blockquote]

    I run single site.

    Yeah... thanks. I'm working on it. This is going to appear on everyone's site regardless of single, multi, etc.

    It has to do with echoing out the foreach loop using the global for shortcodes defined by wordpress.

    I'll post back when I find a solution.

    Note, this notice is only visible when wp-debug is set to true.

    Hi Josh,

    I'd like to show my appreciation for the hard work you been putting into this shortcode issue.

    You got one of those "donate" buttons ?

    Okay.... let's scratch the changes I made above.

    Now, let's get the top of the shortcodes.php file to look like this:

    <?php
    // Hook into WordPress so we can use all the custom functions and global variables
    $file = dirname(__FILE__);
    $file = substr($file, 0, stripos($file, "wp-content") );
    // Added for multisite
    require( $file . "/wp-load.php");
    ?>

    I've made a few changes in the organization of the shortcodes.php file as well. Here is a pastebin link to how the entire file should read:
    http://pastebin.com/UDQ7vrun

    I think this should clear up the issues.

    @Robert, there is a link in the plugin settings page... if you click on "Donations" on the top tab.

    Thank you EVERYONE for helping to work through this.

    @Robert,

    Thank you! My three year old daughter also thanks you... as we will be going to her favorite place in the world tomorrow to eat... "Chuck E Cheese".

    You are very generous, and we sincerely appreciate the "token"!!

    I think I'm going to start working on a drop-down list.... Would you prefer a dropdown like the old method? Or do you like the new popup method?

    Also, I don't like how you can no longer select the code and THEN wrap it with the shortcodes. Now, you have to insert the shortcode, and then go back to insert the content between the brackets. I think it would be better if it wrapped the selected content.

    So...

    1. Popup or dropdown?
    2. Wrap content or Don't wrap content?

    EIDT: One more thing Robert... go ahead and click that all-mighty "resolved" button over on the right for us ;)

    Hi Josh,

    My pleasure!

    We don't have "Chuck E Cheese" in Australia but it sounds good. Having a dutch background I luv my cheese - if I ever find myself in your neck of the woods - I'll be in there like Flynn.

    Feedback re format for Shortcode button:

    - I really don't mind whether it's a pop out panel or a drop down.
    - I rather like the idea of the wrap content feature.

    Enjoy the time with your daughter.

    Resolved!

    At least we are both familiar with that expression!

    Works like a dream!

    - Wrap working OK.
    - No more error message at the top of pop up panel.

    Thanks Ron.

    By the way... where did you get WP 3.5? I've tried searching for it. I'm assuming you're on a list or something?

    Josh, just go to WordPress Trac at this link:
    http://core.trac.wordpress.org/browser/trunk

    There will be a .zip file with the latest trunk. You'll see it at the bottom of the page, where it says "Download in other formats:". Just click on "Zip Archive" underneath and download the .zip file.

    The latest is WP 3.5 alpha-21358. This also includes the Twenty-Twelve theme, which is looking pretty good.

    I just download the zip file, extract it to my test folder for WP 3.5 and overwrite everything there.

    I'm just using the single version of WP 3.5 for now. I won't set up a Multi-User version until maybe October.

    I check out every update of Ultimate TinyMCE with WP 3.4.1 Multi-Site and WP 3.5 alpha (single version).
