Is there a way to disable the prefixing of new custom fields with "wpcf"?

I already have a ton of fields imported without the prefix -for which I'm using different prefixes- and I'd like to continue working that way.

Creating the custom field and then "add it to types control" is not very user-friendly.

    Could we make it optional?

A quick pointer on which file should I be looking to edit to change that behaviour?

    Thanks and regards,

    I.-

We might be able to add this as a user setting in the future. I'm making note of this and will see when we can include it.

A setting which allows the user to either remove or set their own prefix would be good. There are cases where the Types plugin may be used to take over the control of custom fields which were already implemented. Having control over this would allow Types to be used in these cases where it is now not workable without adjusting the custom field names.

Right, but I don't want to promise something that I know we're not implementing right now. It's on our todo list, but not for the upcoming 1.0.5 update.
