   Hi

   I've successfully activated this widget, but I can't find it under appearances > widgets. Why is that?

   Chances are good that you had Jetpack or another Twitter widget installed at the same time. The newest version (2.3.4) fixes the incompatibility with Jetpack by unregistering their Twitter widget
