After a week of testing a variety of things to determine why the memory usage on my server was spiking some 30 to 40% every time I made a new post in WordPress, I determined that the cause of the spike was the autopost setting in Twitter Tools. When turned on, the server memory spikes after a post for about 5 to 15 minutes, regardless of traffic (I've been testing this for hours now - it's completely unrelated to traffic). When I turn the autopost off, and publish a new post, no spike.
I don't know that this is a bug, because I've seen the same issue happening to me with the WP to Twitter plugin. But does anyone know why this is happening? Why would some process continue running for 5 to 15 minutes AFTER I've published a new post that was automatically posted to Twitter? I can understand a momentary spike at the moment of publishing, but for several minutes thereafter? I mean, the autopost is done. Nothing else should be running.
Anyone know? Thanks.
