Plugin to Mass Upload Images from Posts

Recently upgraded to a new self-hosted WP account on 3.1, and imported all my posts via the usual WP import WXR file…

However, and very unfortunately, the media files did not also upload and create the relevant media posts and attach-links to the articles (even though I did check on the box to invoke that process on upload of the WXR file).

Now, my articles work fine, since I grabbed all the image files and placed them in wp-content upload folder, so the img links work. Problem is I don’t have all the thumbnails etc. generated, and furthermore the media posts in admin with attach-links to the articles.

Is there any plugin out there, or clever process, to cycle through all 700 articles, identify img links that point to images stored on my site, and then create the media post entries (including thumbnails etc. and the attach-link to the article, and the title of course)???

I am guessing not, but thought would ask.
