   We run this site for our business and would like to be able to post up long articles across several pages - such as The New York Times and the BBC websites do - and gives "next / back" links at the bottom of the article. Does anyone know if there's a plugin available that would do this?

   That's actually built-in to WordPress. You just need to make your theme aware of it (most aren't).
