Is there a plug-in, or any other such mystical mechanism, by which a hosted blog can (automattically) back up entries to my WordPress.com weblog? Thanx in advance.

If you wish to import posts to wp.com - it is probably best to ask at their forum:

Agreed, but at the same time I'd like to backup from WordPress.. so I think it still applies.

For backup from your own WP install, see the Codex:
    http://codex.wordpress.org/Backing_Up_Your_Database
    So, this part is done.

How to restore it on a certain place - ask there.

Note the "automattic" parenthesis in my first post. I know how to back it up manually. I'm looking for something that'll 'cross-post', I guess.

    That's not "backup". That reblogging.

Then that is indeed what I am looking for. A reblogging tool or plugin that will repost entries from my hosted blog to a WP.com blog. Thank you for the clarification.

Since the plugin should be at the end where the reblogging is happening and, as far as I know, you cannot install plugins at wp.com... I am afraid it won't work.

I've seen Plugins that reblog to LJ and things, so I think it's possible and I'm willing to bet I'm not the first person who's thought of this.
