   Why does the plugin always say it was last updated in 2009? and none of the changelogs or anything gives any kind of dates...

   Hmm, not sure. Looks like a problem with the listing. The last update was 3 days ago. You can see all updates on the plugins trac: http://plugins.trac.wordpress.org/log/tinymce-advanced/
