The Events Calendar
[resolved] what is the widget code to use for custom sidebars? (4 posts)

My sidebars are custom so the drag and drop "Widgets" area doesn't work. Each page has custom template. So I need to know what is the full code/fuctions if I want to disply the small calendar widget anywhere on the page. What do I type on my php template page to disply the small calendar widget? Thanks!

Hi reinforcemac. At this point in time you cannot use the calendar widget outside of a dynamic sidebar.

Generally speaking you could achieve what you want by using WordPress's the_widget() function ... unfortunately right now there is a problem whereby this won't work with the calendar widget that ships as part of The Events Calendar 2.0.8.

This should be addressed in a future version, so stay tuned!

    Hi Barry,

I'm in the same situation as reinforcemac, where I need to use the widget outside of the dynamic sidebar. This is an integral component of the interface I'd designed, and am wondering what the status of this functionality is. Also, where can I "stay tuned"?

I created a hackish version for now since it's so integral to my interface design, but I'm also wondering if there are any workaround tutorials that anyone knows of.

    Thanks!

At this point I understand the future 3.0 release will contain a fix for this issue - quite likely we'll also update the relevant thread or threads on our official forum (which even free users can view) - so the best way to stay tuned is to monitor things over there and of course to keep your plugins up-to-date.

Unfortunately I don't know of any tutorials for this specific problem, though I'm sure it's possible to workaround it (perhaps by enqueueing any missing Javascript files).
