The Events Calendar
[resolved] Some event links sending user to homepage (23 posts)

Most of the calendar works great ... except, if I click certain links in the calendar for a specific event, they send the user to the homepage.

    For example, on our calendar...
    http://www.tipsfromtown.com/calendar/
on June 19th there is an event for "Mom’s and Grandparents’ Day Trip" which should take the user to the event page at...
    http://www.tipsfromtown.com/calendar/moms-and-grandparents-day-trip/

However, when you click the link (or just enter the URL into the browser window), you get redirected to the homepage.

This only happens for a few event, not all - which is odd. I have the most recent version of the calendar installed, and I have WordPress updated. I also didn't see any conflicts with other plugins. Any help is appreciated.

    Hey jabbamonkey,

Strange behavior indeed. Have you tried deactivating all other plugins? What about refreshing permalinks by visiting Settings > Permalinks?

Yup. Tried both of those. Didn't fix the issue...

Are you using the latest version of the plugin (2.0.7)? Have you tried reverting to the Twenty Eleven theme? It could be a theme conflict...

It is version 2.0.7. I'll try reverting to the theme late tonight (dont want to bring down the site in the middle of the day)

I am having this issue as well. I have created my permalinks with no difference. This was working AFAIK before the update to 2.0.7.

Hi guys, is there anything in particular about these few events that you can think of? Custom fields, recurring, specific category or any other pattern to the problem?

im not sure whats wrong with this particular post, which exists before the small update, but if i simply add a -1 to the slug of the event, then save, and view the post, its fine.

    Hey MACscr,

That is strange. Did you upgrade from pre 2.0 by chance? I wonder if something screwy happened with the migration for some events?

i did a couple weeks ago, but this post was created afterwards.

@MACscr - Is it only that post or are there more? Does adding a "-1" to the others fix it as well?

@jabbamonkey - does adding a "-1" to your event slugs help with the issue? Did you just recently migrate from 2.0 too?

    Thanks,
    - Jonah

I checked out two of the posts that it was occurring on. Adding -1 to those two slugs works for those two. Still have the others to figure out (and I'd hate to have to check each event I post every time)

Upgrade from 2.0? To 2.0.7? Not sure exactly. The site is only about 3 months old, so I don't think it's that old. Think I only upgraded it once a few weeks ago (and I wasnt even aware of this occurring before).

    Hey guys,

Well I'm wondering if this is strictly isolated to posts that were migrated vs. new events being created. Are you guys seeing this issue with new events at all?

Whats very odd is that now that post that i added "-1" to its slug no longer works and redirects to the home page again. What the heck is going on? No events were ever migrated on this system. It was even used until after 2.x. It was installed, but no events existed.

    Hey MACscr,

Have you tried deactivating all other plugins?

Yep, no difference after deactivating other plugins.

Ok, I'm going to have one of the other developers take a look at this and see if they can figure anything out.

Would you guys mind posting some more information about your setups in preparation for that:

    - WP version:
    - The Events Calendar version:
    - PHP version:
    - MySQL version:
    - Server technology (apache, nginx, etc.):
    - Active Theme:

That's it for now unless the developer asks for more.

    Thanks,
    Jonah

    Hey guys,

Ok, let me have you try this. Open up your sites .htaccess file, empty it (and if you have anything crazy/crucial in there, make sure to back it up) and then visit Settings > Permalinks and click save to regenerate the .htaccess file.

Let me know how that goes.

    Thanks,
    Jonah

wp 3.4, events 2.7, php 5.3.9, mysql 5.1, apache 2.2, centos 5.8, theme is custom and written from scratch. Pretty standard stuff.

I deleted the htaccess, recreated by saving permalinks. No difference =(

    Hey MACscr,

Thanks for this. I've relayed this to our developer and will get back to you when I have a course of action.

    Cheers,
    Jonah

    Hi MACscr,

Sorry for the delay in an update on this. Unfortunately I don't have much of a fix for you. From what we can determine it sounds like this is a general WordPress issue that some users are having, not even with our plugin:

    http://wordpress.org/support/topic/blog-posts-redirecting-to-home-page
    http://wordpress.org/support/topic/plugin-the-events-calendar-some-event-links-sending-user-to-homepage

Hopefully those threads can provide you with something to work with but there's nothing else we can do right now without being able to reproduce the issue locally.

    Cheers,
    Jonah

Well, I didn't find a resolution in the post you suggested... however I did find another fix.

Go to the EVENTS menu item and click SETTINGS. There are two text fields that are important to this issue. "Events URL Slug" and "Single Event URL slug" both had the value "Calendar" (which I assume was the default).

However, beneath "Single Event URL slug" is a warning ("You cannot use the same slug as above"). So, I kept "Events URL Slug" equal to "Calendar" and then changed the value for "Single Event URL slug" to "events".

This fixed the problem for me.

Hi there jabbamonkey. Awesome to hear you got this sorted, and thanks for posting your solution. This will help future users who encounter this same issue down the road and we appreciate you taking the time to do it.

Since it seems we're set on this issue, and there hasn't been much other action here in a few months, I'm inclined to mark this RESOLVED and will do so now. Please let me know if you disagree.
