Hey Roxanna. Thanks for your interest in the plugin. Happy to answer these questions best I can:

Ability to book multiple dates for one trip - yes, events can span multiple days. If you want recurring events you'll need to buy Events Calendar PRO (http://tri.be/wordpress-events-calendar-pro/), as that recurrence option is a PRO-exclusive feature at this time.
Ability to book multiple trips on the same day - yes, there can be multiple events occurring on the same day.
Specify the number of people for trip - not at this point, unless you were limiting the number of people who could attend via a fixed number of ticket sales. In which case you'd need the Eventbrite Tickets add-on (http://tri.be/wordpress-eventbrite-tickets/).
Specify the number of men/women for a trip (not required) - Probably not, unless you were to use the Eventbrite method I described in the previous bullet.
Widget or php for displaying "similar trips" on web pages - We have a 'related posts' widget in the works for the 2.1 release, but in the interim you'd need to either code something yourself or find a third-party plugin that could help accomplish this.
Widget or php for displaying "upcoming trips" on web pages - Yup, there is both a widget and template tags that you can use to display upcoming events as you see fit.
Widget or php for displaying "trip dates" (each trip will occur multiple times in a year) - If I understand this correctly, the widget I've noted above should accomplish this.
Php for trip highlights (not required) - Not sure what exactly "trip highlights" would entail, but you can use the "excerpt" field to highlight a certain aspect of the event description if you want to.
Widget or php for all (all categories) upcoming trips (those closest to current date) - The widget that comes with the plugin will display upcoming events, showing events closest to whatever the current day is. Sounds like this would do the trick for you here, no?
Ability to purchase trip securely online - This could be done, but would require the Eventbrite Tickets add-on I referenced above.
Ability to list all trips by date/month - Yes, the list view and grid view both can show all upcoming events within the month.
Ability to list each trip by date/month - Not sure how this differs from the previous bullet, but pretty much any event that is in the system will be viewable on the frontend of the site upon publication.

Hope that helps. Let me know if you have any other questions, and thanks again for your interest.

Thanks, it looks like your plugin is the one I've been looking for, but I have a few more questions.

    • Widget or php for displaying "upcoming trips" on web pages - Yup, there is both a widget and template tags that you can use to display upcoming events as you see fit.
    • Widget or php for displaying "trip dates" (each trip will occur multiple times in a year) - If I understand this correctly, the widget I've noted above should accomplish this.

-- So can I display upcoming trips of a certain type (or Category) AND in a different place on the site, display ALL upcoming trips?

Ability to list each trip by date/month - Not sure how this differs from the previous bullet, but pretty much any event that is in the system will be viewable on the frontend of the site upon publication.

-- can I list only the trips of a certain type (category). Say all kayaking trips for the year 2012?

-- is there an option you know of for using a secure (SSL) form for collecting credit card data rather than using Eventbrite?

Hey again Roxanna. Sure thing; I've been out on vacation but am back now and happy to address these questions again best I can. On this round:

So can I display upcoming trips of a certain type (or Category) AND in a different place on the site, display ALL upcoming trips? - Yes, definitely. You can link users directly to a given category view, or they can access it by clicking on the category name from within a given event. The broader calendar will always be available at /events (unless you elect to change that), and users will have the option to click back to it from within given entries as well.

Can I list only the trips of a certain type (category). Say all kayaking trips for the year 2012? - Yup, as per my last bullet above... you will have the flexibility to do this.

Is there an option you know of for using a secure (SSL) form for collecting credit card data rather than using Eventbrite? - At this point, Eventbrite is the only ticketing solution. Our WooTickets add-on is gearing up for release shortly, which will handle the entire ticketing process within The Events Calendar & WooCommerce on your site (rather than taking users over to a third-party site like Eventbrite).

    --

Hope that helps. If we can do anything more, or if you have any other questions, just holler.

Hello again. I am just now trying your product. I wanted to start with the free version before I buy the pro version. Right away I noticed the layout wasn't quite what I wanted. Is it possible to list by month with several columns on the event list? Do I have an option on how to display it or am I stuck with this format (http://fs.flagstaffit.com/events/upcoming/)? That is one of the main features my client would like to provide. Is that possible?

    Thank you.

You can totally configure it - all of the templates can be customized. Check out our Themer's Guide, it's rammed with advice about this sort of thing.
