    Being a newbie to WordPress I downloaded this calendar, installed it, and then was totally lost as to how to use it. After pouring through lots of posts in the forums, experimentation, and softly crying in my pillow, I finally figured out how it works. So, I'm writing this post to help anyone else out there that will struggle with using this plugin.

    Plugin Settings
    ---------------
    This is located at Dashboard - Settings - The Events Calendar. For me, I made sure that "Use Pretty URLs" is turned off because I couldn't get the calendar buttons to work correctly. Even with this off, the drop down box for the Month & Year still do not work (See Below for Fix!)

    Adding an Event
    ---------------
    Go to your Dashboard - Posts. Hit "Add New". Somewhere on this page is a section called "The Events Calendar", select the "Yes" radio button and there's the information you need to create an event. Fill it out and hit Publish and it will automatically go into the calendar.

    Where's My Calendar?
    --------------------
    This took me forever to find out where the calendar existed. (Grid view). Here's where it lives: "www.yoursite.com/category/events". (Replace the http://www.yoursite.com with your actual web address). If it doesn't work then you must have changed your Permalink (like I did after following a websites advice). The permalink is located at Dashboard - Settings - Permalink. In my case, I had the "Custom Structure" set to "/post/%year%/%postname%.html". In this case, the calendar would have lived at "www.yoursite.com/post/category/events". (Please don't laugh, I honestly didn't know what the heck Permalink was and was following another website's advice...)

    PHP Plugin Bug Fix
    ----------------------------
    Yup, there's a bug when you have "Use Pretty URLs" turned off. The dropdown box for month & year doesn't work correctly. Here's how to fix it:

    Edit the following file "/wp-content/plugins/the-events-calendar/views/datepicker.php"

    On line 8 (As of plugin version 1.6.4) change:

    $link .= '&eventDisplay=month&eventDate=';

    to

    $link .= '?eventDisplay=month&eventDate=';

    The problem was that there was a "&" instead of a "?" before "eventDisplay".

    I hope this post will help someone out there that is totally lost and/or looking for a fix. I'll post more information or fixes as I find them.

    Hi
    You have helped somewhat, but I still can't seem to find the calendar - I am using the Paper Core template so not sure if that is the problem, but after I enter an event as a post - it disappears.

    I'm new to this too and am finding it really frustrating

    Hi Highwood, I haven't run into the problem your having. I'll see if that happens to me. Currently, I've stopped developing and reading "smashing wordpress" book to get more insight to word press. even though it's talking about version 2.8, it seems good.
