    Hi there,

I think The Events Calendar is great. I however have run into one small problem with it. On my blog I have sidebar widgets for adverts that appear to the right side of regular posts.

With The Events Calendar individual events post pages, the event text takes up the whole width of the screen and the advert widgets seem to be forced to appear below the post in an awkward way which compromises the aesthetics of our blog.

I would thus like to stop the Sidebar widgets (adverts) from appearing on the events pages. Is this possible? If so am I able to make the changes directly in WordPress by the php edit area of the plug-in?

    many thanks
    Victor

  • Me too… It’s is killing me, since the functionality of the plugin is amazing and perfect. but I am not sure how to get rid of them or customize them. They don’t even follow the formatting across the theme? Where or how can I force those widgets to follow the design standards and conventions set forth by the theme?

    Please help! Thanks.

Hey folks. Thanks for the words of support, and for posting this. My apologies for the inconvenience you’ve experienced so far. Right off the bat: what happens if you change to a different template option under Settings -> The Events Calendar? For some folks who have been faced with this situation, just changing that did the trick.

If it still gives you issues after trying each of the options on that dropdown, can you let me know what themes you’re both using and I can try to troubleshoot from there? Thanks!

    Hello guys,

Changing the template option did not quite work for me. I took the option of getting a web-designer to actually amend the code to have the events page appear similar to the posts page layout of my theme and that seems to have resolved the issue.I had to pay for the amendment but it is worth it to remove the annoyance. The guy I used is based in India and was quite good and reasonable cost-wise.

    cheers

ummmmm…really too bad. This is a cool plugin that I really wanted to use. But after spending three hours messing around creating my own css for styling and still not finding a way to either the delete the sidebar or make the “list” move enough to allow it to slide up…I sadly deleted the plugin and will do without the functionality. Please let me know if you ever get this fixed…I can’t afford to hire someone to do it for me. TNX Sue

    Hi roblagatta,

I am using the twenty-eleven theme, and I experience this problem when using the “default events” and “sidebar” templates.

There is also an unusually large amount of margin or padding above the event title.

    Thanks!

Hey guys. Thanks for the follow-up here. Sue, sorry to hear this wasn’t able to meet your needs given the budget/bandwidth you’ve faced. If I understand correctly, most of these could be resolved by following the themer’s guide (tri.be/themers-guide-to-the-events-calendar/) and working to integrate the plugin correctly with your theme. Anyone given that a go yet should and let me know the results.

jc0de: I’m on the 2011 theme too, and when I’m running the default events template the event title looks fine to me – http://d.pr/i/oRjg. Are you seeing something different? Or are you just referencing that white space at the top there?

The fix is an easy one, I just installed the calendar and removed the sidebars from the single events page by doing the following:

    – Create an “event” folder in your main theme.
    – Copy the file “ecp-single-template.php” (located in the “views” folder of your EC files) into the new “event” folder.
    – Open the “ecp-single-template.php” file that you copied into your “event” folder and delete line 29 “<?php get_sidebar(); ?>”
    – Save, upload and the sidebars are gone.

This is a great walkthrough, amilithist! Thanks for sharing…it will definitely be of use to others down the road here.

Since I haven’t heard back from anyone else in the thread, and since your solution provides a nice fix, I’m going to go ahead and mark this one RESOLVED. Please let me know if anyone disagrees with that action.
