• I’m using the default WordPress menu for my site, i.e. I create my pages in a hierarchical fashoin and they automatically are placed into the menu structure. I’ve also added The Events Calendar plugin, which currently is accessible through the blogroll via a link I added. I’d like to add a ‘Calendar’ menu at the top to take users directly to the calendar page (http://kmclife.org/events). How do I do this? Do I create some sort of page that automatically redirects to the url of the calendar?

  • You could go to Appearance > Links and add a custom link with the URL you want to use. The add that link to the menu you want

If that doesn’t do exactly what you want you could use the Redirection plugin to point any URL to the calendar URL

I think there must be a step I’m missing. I created the custom link and clicked ‘Add to Menu’ but it did not show up on my web page. I know you can create custom menus under the Appearance/Menu section, but I haven’t done that, I just created pages under the Page tab and they’ve been automatically added to the menu. I just want to add a custom page/link or two to the same menu system. Thanks.

Hi there jmessick. Depending on how your site is configured, you may have to actually set that new menu created as the header or navigation (specific to your theme settings) before anything would appear on the frontend. Could that be the issue?

At this point the only method we’re aware of for 100% successful adding to the header is via the Appearance -> Menus section. Unlike how you’re describing pages on your install, events unfortunately will have to be added manually at this time.

Hope that helps. If you’ve got other questions, just ask. Sorry I couldn’t offer up more.

Thanks! I’ll keep plugging away until I get a handle on this stuff. I KNOW I will! 🙂

Though it takes time (I’m not a dev myself, just a support-minded dude) I’ve found this stuff becomes increasingly apparent over time. And nothing like forums to help make things clearer 🙂

let us know what else we can do.
