HELP, please... I can't edit plugin files at all... (2 posts)

Ok, yes, I broke it but I didn't mean to.

I've used TEC on several sites. I have made minor modifications in the PHP files before when needed. Today, I wanted to change the list.php slightly, but I was unable to FTP to my site temporarily, which is how I usually modify WP php files. So I figured I'd try the Plugin Editor right in WordPress admin. Never used that feature before, never had a need to. Therefore had NO idea I'm not supposed to edit a file in there without disabling the plugin first. (WP, couldn't you have warned me?)

So I tried to make a change. It didn't "take." I then notice that at the top of the Plugin Editor that it says, next to the name of every file in every plugin I have insalled, (inactive). So, I'd see at the top of the editor window list.php (inactive).

Did some Googling, saw several people say this was bad, and the only way to fix is to disable, then uninstall, then reinstall, and reactivate the plugin.

No no no no no, please, I just got finished adding 25 events to this calendar. I don't want to lose all of that work.

I thought, well maybe if I can go edit the PHP files and upload them via FTP (which of course is fixed now) maybe the "inactive" thing in the Plugin Editor won't matter, as I never edit there anyway. But this is the mystery: I go into any of the TEC php files, make a change (even like adding CAN YOU SEE ME to the top of the page) and FTP it up... the changes I make to the plugin files are not displaying. they uploaded - but WP is completely ignoring that they changed.

    MY QUESTIONS:

    1. If I disable and uninstall TEC then reinstall, obviously the posts in category event will still be there. Will the calendar just "work" again? Or will I have to re-enter all of these events?

    2. Will doing that even fix this problem?

    3. Can anyone explain to me what exactly is now "broken"? How is it that nothing I do to the php files is being "read" by WP after FTPing the files up? Is there any way to fix?

    4. ALL of my plugin php files are showing as (inactive) - not just TEC. Yet TEC is the only plugin I edited through plugin editor. Do I have to uninstall all my plugins to fix this?

Any other help/thoughts appreciated. I'm really a little mad that something that simple can be done that permanently breaks functionality without so much as a warning from WP... :(

Well, scratch half of what I said above.

I figured it couldn't hurt, may as well just disable, then delete TEC. So I did. Then I reinstalled it, and reactivated it. Everything still works fine - all of my events are still there. BUT, changes I make to any of the PHP files (particularly, /views/list.php and /views/gridview.php) are NOT showing up when I upload the file via FTP. And this time I didn't touch the Plugin Editor at all.

Please, please... any suggestions would be appreciated.
