Trick: Customizing the management page (15 posts)

I installed Subscribe To Comments Reloaded 2 days ago and I really like this plugin.
But I spent some hours trying to customize the management page for the users. For example, I'd like to put a specific class to a parent div, so I could use this class in my css selectors, or I could modify the generic template for this page.

I didn't find anything in the forum (but modify the templates directly in the plugin), but I found a way by myself... A weird way, but it works.
    Here's the thing:
    - First, duplicate the page.php of your theme (or index.php, single.php...) and rename it page-manage-subscriptions.php. "manage-subscriptions" is the url you indicated in the plugin settings (options tag, at the top), so you can change it to what you want, just make sure the file has the same name whit "page-" before.
    - You can edit this file by adding your custom class or by modifying the html structure. Make sure to keep the_content().
    - Then, go to WordPress admin and create a new page. You can give the title you want. You can leave its content empty. The only important thing is the permalink (under the page title): you have to edit it and name it the same way (manage-subscriptions for example) and save the page.
    - At this point, if you try to go to your management page, you'll see it, but you have no management at all. Here's the trick: go back to your admin area AND PUT YOUR NEW PAGE IN THE TRASH! Yes, in the trash, and don't suppress it, just keep it there.
    - Now you can go to your management page, it's here.

I know, it's a bit weird, but it worked for me. May be there's a simpler way for that but it's the only thing I found.

    I hope it will help.

Wow! It worked. I don't know how but it does. You are a regular Macgyver of wordpress. I've been toiling for a few days trying to customize my manage subscriptions page to no avail. The "How to" instructions on making an actual page left me nowhere but accepting the default settings. Just out of curiosity, how did you ever stumble upon this and how is it possible given that the page is in the trash? Regardless, I am grateful for this ingenious, albeit strange, fix. Kudos.

    Cheers indeed.

I'm glad this could help someone :)

    Well, with luck :D
I didn't know how to customize this page and I spent a night try to. I tried many things, creating pages, changing their name, deleting them, modifying the plugin... And, suddenly, "Wow, it works!... Hum... But why, why does it work now? What have I done?" That's how I figure it out. I don't exactly know why it actually works. I think WordPress needs this page somewhere in the database to really consider it as a page. But if this page is active, it can't display the plugin content. So, in the trash, the page still exists but doesn't prevent the plugin from doing its job (because the page doesn't supposed to be displayed).

In one hand: "Why doesn't it work?", and in the other hand: "Why does it work?". Choose the one you prefer :D

And with a little bit of CSS and some tweaks in the plugin templates, you can even do that sort of things : http://cl.ly/38140t152a1Z2E2T1y06 (sorry, it's in French ;) ). I thought colors and words are more understandable than "Y" and "N".

Guys, I see you are pushing my plugin beyond its limits :) I'm sorry I missed this request but I'm glad you were able to solve this problem. I've been busy working on my other plugin, lately, so I have had no time to update StCR. I've found a bug that may be the cause of your problems. I hope I will be able to release the fixed version soon :)

It probably is a conflict with some other plugin. Try disabling all of them (but mine) and see if that solves the issue. If it does, try then activating the others one by one, until you find the culprit.

PS: a vote for my plugin would be really appreciated.

    You're welcome, Nomadsteam :)

And guys, if you don't want your trash to be empty after 30 days, put something like this in config.php :
    define ('EMPTY_TRASH_DAYS', 99999);
