Fatal error: Call to undefined function stats_get_option() in /[full path deleted for privacy]/wp-content/plugins/official-statcounter-plugin-for-wordpress/StatCounter-Wordpress-Plugin.php on line 37
This plugin needed to bake at 350 for a few minutes longer.
Fortunately, I had a backup of the old plugin and I used FTP to overwrite the "upgrade" version. This set things back right. But -- wowsers -- that thing crashed the admin backend hard.

Apologies for any inconvenience caused with this latest update.
This bug only occurs under certain conditions and it went unnoticed before we released it.
We've already applied a patch to fix the problem and sent the fix to wordpress. It should be available to download from wordpress shortly.

As with all plugins, using an FTP program (like FileZila or FireBug for Firefox) and logging onto your FTP server, navigating to the /wp-content/plugins folder and then deleting the plugin folder (official-statcounter-plugin) in there will remove it easily. You can then download the updated plugin installation .ZIP folder, extract the folder, and then re-upload to the /wp-content/plugins folder.
So, yes - once you've deleted the files off your webserver, re-uploading the updated files will re-install the plugin :)

I have the same problem. Unable to log into admin due to corrupt StatCounter update. I just downloaded FileZila, but I don't understand how to log into FTP server. What do put in under "host" "user" and "password" and "port"?

I wasn't able to delete the folder, so couldn't figure how to get rid of it. Luckily Go Daddy went in and deleted for me...wish I could have resolved it myself, but every time I high-lighted the file and hit delete, nothing happened. No option appeared for me to delete it, only to transfer it.
