Socilable vanishes after update (18 posts)

    After updating to Sociable 4.0 using WP 3.2.1, it has completely vanished from all pages and posts.

    Additionally, the Sociable settings page won't load properly - it's just junk text and blank boxes.

    Hi Jmichael79!

    Thanks to tell us about issues, try downloading the last stable version (4.0.3) it have a fix for your trouble!

    The junk text and blank boxes on the setting pages are still visible for me (using 4.0.3 on the latest stable WP release). However, I think the problem is that Sociable no longer works well on older browsers.

    Here at work I have to use Firefox 3.6 - my company won't give me anything newer. So to change Sociable settings I have to log in using IE - ugh!

    If anyone else is having trouble with Sociable settings, try a different browser.

    Hmm, that said, the preview section ("Live preview of how Sociable will appear on your blog") contains no icons, and I cannot get anything to appear on my site. I'm calling the code ?php if( function_exists( do_sociable() ) ){ do_sociable(); }? directly.

    I think I might roll back to the previous version. At least it worked.

    hi gorky5!

    Thanks for writing us,

    When you get into sociable admin you still viewing blank boxes? and some broken texts?

    Please, if you can post some snapshots we can fix it asap

    And in order to get your icons appear, try to press "Reset" button in the bottom of Sociable admin

    Thanks!

    I did try the reset and it still didn't work, so I rolled back to 3.5.2, which did everything I needed it to (apart from a Google+ button). I didn't take any screengrabs, sorry.

    For anyone else who needs it, 3.5.2 can be downloaded from this page: http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/sociable/download/

    I did find that if I saved changes in 4.0.3, then reopened the Sociable settings page, they reverted to the default values ("Be Sociable, Share!" and the link to Sociable box checked etc), overriding any changes I'd previously made. The update seemed to fail on every level.

    While you're here, can you tell me why the zip file for the new version is a whopping 3.5 MB, whereas 3.5.2 was only 300 KB? What's in the new code to make the plugin so large?

    In new version of plugin, you have the option to choose 5 diferents icon styles and 4 diferents icons sizes and the images to show all icons and the sprites are weights and thats why the new plugin is heavier

    In some days we are including the Google+ Button.

    thanks for writing us!

    I'm also having this problem. I've tried the reset button as well as changing to different versions of the icons. The images are not showing up on the settings page or on the blog. Any help would be appreciated.

    Things didn't just disappear for me... I got a "fatal error" message and nothing on the blog, from admin to the actual blog, would come up. Just the error!! I eventually found this forum. Thank you gorky5, for your suggestion. My last saved file was v. 3.5.1. So I installed 3.5.2 and everything went back to GREAT. Our days in IM/Internet are hard enough without things like this happening. So, what was the issue? It seems that testing before letting it fly would have prevented this. I have one other plugin that I love, but I NEVER update it. And this one just got added to the list. Sorry....

    I don't see a way to post a screenshot in this forum. I'm updated to the most current 4.0.5 version. I've tried resetting, deactivating and completely uninstalling and reinstalling. The More+ button displays but none of the other icons are. If you hover over the More button an empty white box appears. I can email you a screenshot if necessary.

    I found one problem, I think, as to why the icons are not showing up on my site after updating this plugin - the icons are displayed using a background image at a location of: /wp-content/plugins/sociable/images/sprites/option1_16.png.

    Problem is, I have WordPress installed in a sub-directory of my domain name and then shifted to run off of the root.

    My site is, as an example: http://suficommunity.org/

    but the wp-install is located in http://suficommunity.org/wp/.

    I believe you need to reference the background images in your stylesheet as "images/sprites/option1_16.png" instead of how you have it. That should fix it.

    Correction, you want to change it to:

    ../images/sprites/option1_32.png"

    because of the file structure.

    That comment was to the developers.

    To anyone wanting to fix it for themselves in the meantime, you can go into your sociable plugin folder to the file sociable.css in the css folder, and go to line 55 and change it to:

    .option1_32{
    background:url("../images/sprites/option1_32.png") no-repeat scroll;
    display: block;float: left;height: 32px;width: 32px;
    }
    .option1_16{
    background:url("../images/sprites/option1_16.png") no-repeat scroll;
    display: block;float: left;height: 16px;width: 16px;
    }

    and so... Really you just need to change it for the option you are using (ie option 1_16 is for the size of 16pixels for option 1. And the only change in those lines are as commented on above for the way the image is referenced.

    Good luck

    And a final comment to the authors of this plugin, a recommendation, the drop-down/pop-up from the More option tab is very awkward. It pulls up right over the other buttons and so makes it hard to navigate around after it has pulled it up.

    Either way, thanks for the plugin.
