[Plugin: Smart Slideshow Widget] Need more specific installation instructions
-
Hi Rueben,
I am haviig trouble setting the two fields in the widget for the Image folder and Image URL. I keep getting an error message on the sidebar. Can you give specific examples of what to put in each of these fields? DO you have to fill out one, the other or both? Can I pint to the link in the Gallery? Any specifics will be very helpful.
Thanks,
Greg

I am also having the same issue.
Examples of what to enter in each field would be most helpful.Guys, I’ve set this up and it is working great. I set the fields as follows:
Image folder: images
Image URL: http://www.veocolorado.com/wp-content/imagesI created the folder images within the wp-content folder and uploaded my images into the new folder images.
You can see this working at: http://www.veocolorado.com
batracy example is very illustrative. Thanks. Other possible configuration:
Image folder: ../myimages
Image URL: http://lamedalla.es/decarton/myimages(where http://lamedalla.es/decarton is the root folder of the WP installation).
I hope this helps.
rubentrf – when I configure as you have outlined, it doesn’t work. I get an error message that the directory doesn’t exists.
Image folder: ../images
Image URL: http://www.veocolorado.com(http://www.veocolorado.com is the root folder of the WP installation)
When I configure as I have outlined above, it works just fine.
This is because your folder “images” is located inside wp-content. If you put ../images you are saying the folder images is outside the wp-content folder.
Configurations:
If this is your case:
veocolorado.com
|->wp-content
|->wp-admin
|->wp-includes
|->imagesyou must use: ../images
if your case is:
veocolorado.com
|->wp-content
|
-> images
|->wp-admin
|->wp-includesyou must use: images
ok i’ve managed to get rid of the error by pointing it to the right folder, however now nothing is showing?
Is there anything I should be aware of?
vvdven, read this thread and see if you are including jQuery without using the no-Conflict version
Hi Ruben,
I’m fairly technologically challenged, but I was able to get your widget up and running on my site:
http://www.midwestapologetics.org/blog
It displays the books I’ve written on the sidebar and was really the only thing I could find that would do what I wanted so thank you for creating this.
However, for some reason it runs through three different sizes for the images that are in the destination folder: the standard size, a mini, and a thumbnail. I would imagine this will be quite distracting if someone is reading and different sized images keep flashing in. Is there any way to change this so that only the standard size will be displayed? Do I need to add something to the “Custom Style” box? If so, what are my editing options for that box?
Thank you.trchaffey, I’m happy you started using SSW, and thanks for your nice words.
The problem you related is a future feature I’ve in mind, image size selection.
With the current version, the only way to make this work as you want is to take the desired size images to another folder, and point the Smart Slideshow Widget configuration. You might need to do this over FTP, with your hosting user and password.
Create a new folder in wp-content, let’s say “mybooks” and paste the desired resolution images there.
Now, in the widget configuration, setup “Image folder” as “mybooks”, and “Image URL” as “http://www.midwestapologetics.org/blog/wp-content/mybooks”.
That’s all, It must work this way 😉
Hi
Updated the slideshow the other day and now it longer works. Its just static and doesn’t move.
It also now clashes with the main slideshow on our blog http://www.silkysensation.com/blog/ and stops that one working too.
Once we deactivated the smart slideshow widget our main slideshow started to work again.
They both worked fine before the update.
Just wondered if anyone else has had this problem??
Chris
Oh and the problem only occurs in IE 7, 8 & 9
Both slideshows work fine in firefox and google chrome???
Hello
Can somebody please explain to me step by step what I’m supposed to do for entering in the two fields that say:
Image folder:
Folder where you have stored the images. Relatives are considered to wp-content folder of your WordPress installation.
and
Image URL:
URL for the folder where you have stored the images, a full URL starting with http://.
Please explain as if you’re talking to a 6 year old trying to figure this out. I downloaded the plugin, but have no idea where these “folders” or “URLs” are located on my Mac. Thanks
Scott

http://www.mywebsite.com/blog/wp-content/imagesI uploaded the photos pre-sized to 100 px in width so it should be within the side column maximum
I cleared my server cache and browser cache and reloaded and still nothing.
I tried in the other side column and nothing.This widet is exactly what I am looking for, for my blog, I appreciate any help you can offer.
Thanks
