Brilliant idea, terrible implementation (5 posts)

Unpredictable redirects do not save visitors from 404-page but confuse even the site owner.

Imagine what frustration it causes with searches, custom redirects and caching!

Why did not the guy just added smarttag, but decided to "improve" the site workflows? Who knows...

Do you mean you would like to use this plugin in the same way as Drupal's search404 module, meaning it would only search and never automatically redirect? If, then I agree, it might come handy to have an option for that on the settings page in case of a nasty redirection mistake.

i too would like to have the option for returning all matches rather than redirecting to just the 1st match...

i also have an issue with smart404 ignoring 404s if permalinks aren't set to custom "/pages/%postname%/"

wtf??? compare my production website http://cavitronix.com/thisisa404
with my dev.site http://toms.homeunix.net:28080/cavitronix.com/thisisa404/ (with the default permalinks)

re: returning all matches rather than redirecting to just the 1st match...

i've coded a fix, adding a config. that allows redirect to 1st match found(the current behavior) otherwise show all matches...i've put it up @ http://wibles.webhop.net/toms/stuff/smart404_php.txt
