[Plugin: SitePal Talking Avatar 1.5] This is NOT free! (5 posts)

Just a heads-up that this plugin is NOT free. When you read the readme file, it says you can register for a "free" 15-day trial, but after that, it's like $10 per month. You cannot, I repeat, cannot use this without registering your credit card with the trial.

I thought that the plugins here were free to use, and if we like them, then we can donate to the author. This company is not a freelance author, but rather a decent-sized company trying to expand their market on the WP community. Shady, I'd say.

    Hope this helps someone.

The requirement for being listed on wordpress.org's plugins section is that the plugin is licensed under the GPL or a GPL-Compatible license.

This sitepal plugin has no obvious license information, but it appears to be mainly an interface to the sitepal service itself, which only offers the 15 day free trial.

However, it does not appear to violate any of wordpress.org's rules. Nowhere does it say that the plugins listed on here have to be self-contained or cannot use some external service. Akismet, for example, is free to use by individuals but charges for companies and other non-personal enterprises.

So I'd say that this is not a violation. The plugins here are free-as-in-speech, not free-as-in-beer.

I understand that, I was only letting others know that it's a pay service. I was about to grab it, but decided to research it before I did. That research resulted in me finding out that they want my money.

The purpose of my 1st post was to save others some time.

@pclove. I share your sentiment. That there is a fee to be able to use the plugin should have been stated upfront, so we don't waste time.

This should _NOT_ be listed on WordPress.org.
