Using beta version of new SFC, publishing issues (4 posts)

    Hi!
I know that I'm using a beta version of this plugin. The reason for that is that I got sick of not being able to solve the issue of maximum display of 26 characters and no "read more" link when I publish a post to facebook.

Found the beta plugin through SVN (New SFC version 0.999) and I love it. Absolutely love it.

The only thing that's bugging the crap out of me is the fact when if I publish a post to FB, and I do not have an image attached to the post, it automatically grabs an irrelevant image from my sidebar (which is sort of an ad) and is displayed as a thumbnail.

At first I thought it was related to activating the widgets etc. because when I disabled that feature it stopped, but the problem returned after a few days.

Yes - I know this is the beta version, but I really do not want to go back and use version 0.25. All of those plugins made it messy and I prefer the cleaner version of it all.

Is there a way to fix this?

    Well, yes and no.

Facebook publishing is a tricky beast. Basically, SFC grabs the first image in your post that it finds and sends it.

However, if there is no image then SFC doesn't send one... then Facebook, in their infinite wisdom, go and crawl your page looking for an image to use. Invariably, they pick the largest image on the page.

So, short version, always include an image. Not really a good way around that.

Oh, how sad. Glad to know though that it's not your plugin that's doing this. Hope facebook stops with this very soon. I don't always want an image in my post...

    Thanks for your quick reply!

You can also use the post-thumbnail (aka "Featured Image") functionality if your theme has support for it enabled. SFC will use the featured image preferentially if one is set for the post.
