Simple Facebook Connect
[resolved] Publish to Facebook - only shows waiting-icon (12 posts)

Hi, I've just downloaded and installed Simple Facebook Connect. So far, the setup has been easy and intuitive. However, I encountered a few problems.

When I click Publish to Facebook Fan Page, a Facebook-dialog pops up that just shows three animated waiting bars forever. As nice as they are to look at, it would be great if the post could actually be published.... Help please?

Add this line to your wp-config.php, see if it fixes the problem:

    define('SFC_PUBLISH_ENDPOINT','feed');

You'll need to reload the page editor then try the manual publish again.

I'll see about making a patch to fix this, since Facebook has apparently broken their system yet again since I changed that code.

I've put a patch into 1.2 to work around this for now until I can figure out why FB broke things again.

However, for anybody who already upgraded, you can either download the fixed 1.2 again manually, or use the above code to work around the issue. As soon as I work out the deal, I'll push 1.3 to fix it for all.

Otto, thanks for the tip to include the line into wp-config.php. Publishing works now for me.

However, my featured image isn't shown next to the post, only the text? An awful lot of text, actually. Could you please include an option to control the length of the excerpt?

If you want to change the excerpt length, then you can use a similar solution to what I talk about here:

    http://wordpress.org/support/topic/plugin-simple-facebook-connect-publish-only-the-first-50-characters-then-at-read-more-link?replies=2

All the requests I've gotten have asked for the excerpt to be as long as possible, which it is by default. Longer excerpts tend to give better clickthroughs.

Thanks man, I'll try that filter function!

What about the featured image? Is that possible? Caus I believe it increases clickthroughs even more.

The plugin will automatically use the feature image, if there's one set. That's built into the publisher.

Well, it doesn't. I've set the featured image for a post (I don't believe there's much I can do wrong here?), clicked publish to fb, and the post was published to my fb fanpge without the featured image. Just the text.

I just noticed that now, on the post editor page, instead of the publish button there is the following message:
"If you can see this, then there is some form of problem showing you the Facebook publishing buttons. This may be caused by a plugin conflict or some form of bad javascript on this page. Try reloading or disabling other plugins to find the source of the problem."

Must be something else on your install conflicting. Works fine for me.
