[Plugin: Simple Facebook Connect] Can you duplicate this awesomeness--but with Twitter? (5 posts)

    So, I love your plugin. I installed it on Pretty Shiny Sparkly and for the first time EVER since attempting to integrate social APIs with wordpress...it worked seamlessly. No problems. Other than a minor dumb woofoo theme issue which I fixed with your code fix about echo get_avatar( $comment, '60' );

    Here's what I love about it: it doesn't force user creations. I love that people can simply leave a comment, that's it, and be on their merry way. No filling up my database with one-off commenters. No issues with security.

    But what I would REALLY love is if you could duplicate this same entire concept, except with the Twitter API. I tried out TwitConnect with depressing results. Fine enough to set up, but once I realized it was creating users on my blog, I immediately deleted it.

    Can you PLEASE look into making a "Simple-Twitter-Connect"? Using oAuth (I easily made my blog a Twitter application and thus have my own api and secret keys) for login credentials without creating a new user, grabbing their twitter avatar, and offering them the ability to tweet their comment after commenting on an entry...

    these would be wonderful. Please let me know what you think (yea or nay) so I know whether or not to get my hopes up.

    :)

    I've considered it, but oAuth is complicated and bugs me.

    My main problem is that the SFC Comments stuff uses Javascript to make it shiny. When you login with FB, it gives you that view change without refreshing the page. As far as I can tell, that's not possible with Twitter and oAuth. You can't implement oAuth entirely with just Javascript and HTML. Server chatter has to occur, which means a page refresh. This also messes up super-caching pages.

    Anyway, I have left hooks in SFC to make it easier to do STC though. So if and when, then it should be possible.

    Just to show that I'm working on it:

    Yes, I have a base plugin working.
    Login partially works.
    Comments is coming soon.

    When I have login and comments, I'll release it. Maybe next week.

    Slight problem: It ain't pretty. Redirection and reloading is the only way to do it. Blame Twitter and OAuth for not being javascript friendly.

    Done. Login and Commenting both work. Code is on my website.

    Will be adding to the wp.org repository as soon as I get approval.
