[resolved] [Plugin: Shorten2Ping] ver. 1.3 - Change Bit.ly to J.mp using the editor (17 posts)

I was wondering if there was a way to change all of the bit.ly info into j.mp info using the plugin editor.

Ping.fm handles bitly and jmp links differently for me. That is to say, the places where the status updates post like jmp more than bitly.

Ping also does not convert and show analytics for bitly links, but it does for j.mp links.

I figured since bitly and jmp were the same exact service (as I understand it) it might not be too difficult a thing to do.

If it cannot be done in a quick and dirty way, then I'd like to request it as a feature request option in the next build.

True, I know nothing, so if this can be done, can someone explain it to me in an "Idiot's Guide" sort of way :)

I am using shorten2ping on my blog http://silenciobarnes.com

    Hi!

I'll try to add support for j.mp for the next version. I hope to have time in a near future for this and other pending things.

    Best regards.

I can confirm now that support for j.mp is ready (but not released yet).

Would you like to test it?. Download main file from trunk and replace your shorten2ping.php file with this.

Thanks! I installed the new script a day or so ago...but I haven't actually made a new post yet :)) I will do so tonight or tomorrow and report the results back here.

Alas, it did not work. When putting the API login credentials in for j.mp, after saving, they disappear. I suspect something is missing, maybe just a snippet of code or something, I cannot say, as I am ignorant of such things :))

However, the j.mp credentials are exactly the same as the bit.ly ones, maybe something can be done with that.

Please, deactivate the plugin, and activate again.

    After that, it should work.

By the way... There is a new version in the trunk.

I used the new version and deactivated and then activated the plugin. The credentials stuck this time, but when a new post was created, no link was created with it.

The text of the posting came out, but the j.mp link never made it to Ping, so it came out looking like this:

    twitter post

Where the link would come after the "-"

    So sorry :(

Latest trunk is working in my tests.

I'm sure that with this will work for you too, but should delete 'shorten2ping_options' from your wp_options table first if you dont want to have troubles with future releases.

Sorry for the incovenience. I really appreciate your time ;)

Tip: If you want to generate a shortlink for a post that you previously sent to twitter, you can do this:

    1. In options, set "notification" to "none".
    2. Go to edit post screen, set the post to "draft" and save the post.
    3. Now press the "publish" button.

If all goes ok, you'll the "short_url" custom field with the shortlink ;)

PS. I'll add an easy way to do this in future releases.

My computer was down for a few days. I finally got to try again today. It still does not work. It is not creating the j.mp link, but it is posting from ping. So just like before I got a status update, but no link attached.

I'll wait for your next trunk update! If you need anymore detailed info, tell me how to get it and I'll give it to you.

Well... That's weird... It works perfectly for me in many blogs...

In fact I'm planning to release it very soon, maybe this week.

In that case I will wait for the final release. I will delete my old copy and its options table entry and install the new one. I am sure it will be fine.

Thank you for all of your help though! I respect the fact that you took the time out to deal with me and my situation.

And in the end, it doesn't matter anyway :)) Just like bit.ly links, ping.fm no longer converts j.mp links. Glad you added the wp.me, cuz that's what I'll be using now!

I'm happy to read that ;)

But anyway, I dont understand what you mean to say with "ping.fm no longer converts" ... ping.fm should not touch any of the links...

When links go through ping.fm, they get converted to ping shortlinks.

For instance, I tweeted through ping.fm:

If you want me to listen to it, read it, critique it or comment on it, then post it, or link it in my forum - register: http://j.mp/9iJNY5

Ping.fm turned the j.mp link into http://ping.fm/5QU7i when it posted to my social networks.

However, it did not convert bit.ly links, they stayed the same. That was why I started this thread, because I wanted to use j.mp. However, now it seems like it no longer converts anything :( When it converted the links, ping.fm also tracked analytics for the links.

It's a matter of configuration of your ping.fm account, not about Shorten2Ping.

Simply go to settings default page at ping.fm and uncheck "Shorten links in posts" option and click "Update settings" button.
