Secret Content
[resolved] Possible to do this with password pages? (6 posts)

It would really be nice if a plugin could be written to what Secret Content does, except with password protected pages. That way a user doesn't need to be logged in, only to use the page password. Is that possible with WP?

It sounds to me, that you want a login mechanism that is based on anonymous visitors who know a password? (not members, just knowing the password) ?!

Maby you can install wordpress in a subfolder, then use a .htaccess and tell your friends the password for that subfolder... just an idea.

I have no idea what I was thinking--lol. I'd have to go back and load Secret Content and try to remember, but all of that is resolved. I seem to have figured out what I need.

I think what it was is that when you make a page secret, it disables password protection.

I use the plugin called "Hide Pages" now which allows a hidden but password protected page.

Content that are hidden by "secret content" is visible to members that are logged in - so it is password protected too - by the users individual password.
    Whatever fits your need :)

True, but I don't have the type of business where people become "members." I just give then a password to a page of their images, they pick the images, and the page then gets deleted.

The way I'm doing it now works. I'm just using Custom Menus, which need to have each page added manually to show in the menu structure, so that's solved--no pages show unless I put them in the menu.

Hide Pages also excludes pages from the menu, but more importantly, since I'm using custom menus, removes the page from search engines, if I need that.

Then I just use the normal WP password protection for client pages, and send them the hidden link in email.

if you are actively sending them a link - then its like the same procedure when creating users and letting wordpress send them a mail anyways?
But yea I understand your thing - you need each mail (or user) to have individual private content.
I'll write this on a "suggestions list" (content only for specific user).

    Best Regards.
