looking ot implement a small sidebar chat/shoutbox on a site and don't want to go with an external solution and neither with a full blown chat. I need a solution for the sidebar.

    your plugin looks perfect.

still, how is it structured? are all shoutbox entries normal comments to a certain post/page? That is how wp wall works. If that is true, I wouldn't need akismet as I have other anti spam mechanisms in place that protect my normal comments... and if it were structured like that it would be open for changes, i.e. I could switch to another plugin if needed.

regarding the ajax-shoutbox/chat version, how much load does it put on the server?

    Hi Ovidiu.

Schreikasten implements its own functions to call the spam system because it doesn't use WP's comments functions. It is possible to set another spam system. I would write a how-to in the next release.

Schreikasten was designed as a shoutbox, and that's why at this moment it creates a lot of bandwidth when used as a chat. Solve this situation is at the top of the requirements list before the 1.0 release.

After 11 minutes without new messages, SK adds 1,6 KB to bandwidth. But for each new message SK would add 16KB.

thanks for all that info. I must admit after checking all options I went with WP WALL for the simple reason it stores shouts as comments to a page that I define which gives me the option of moving to another system later as I can simply take my comments over while your system is kinda "closed" by storing in its own structure...

will keep an eye on the development of your plugin though...

btw. I wasn't concerned about bandwidth but about load :-)
