Rotating Tweets (Twitter widget and shortcode)
[resolved] [Plugin: Rotating Tweets widget and shortcode] Prevent display of "from" and "via&quo (12 posts)

    Martin,

This is not a make or break issue for me, but is there a way to easily prevent it from displaying the "from ______" and "via _______" after the timestamp without hacking your php file? I'd like it to display the timestamp only, and ideally not have to recustomize the script after each update.

Interesting you say that. I was just about to do some coding to give people options to show:

    • Reply - Retweet - Favorite

but making it code to show:

    • Timestamp
    • From / via
    • Reply - Retweet - Favorite

    will be even better!

    So... yes. Watch this space!

I've uploaded a version that does this to http://downloads.wordpress.org/plugin/rotatingtweets.zip

Let me know if it works for you!

    Best wishes,

    Martin

    Perfect. Thanks again, Martin.

Not sure how much you want to keep at it, but the next cool options I could envision for even more user customization would be little buttons that take you back/forward in the cycle, and then different transitions and/or option to rotate/switch tweets horizontally.

But really those are 'nice to haves' instead of 'need to haves'. Its working great now for what I needed. Cheers.

Little buttons to take you backwards and forwards might be quite messy. It's tricky to put them into the tweets (i.e. I haven't worked out how to do it yet - it may need some tricky jQuery).

The default approach puts them on an extra line - which I'd rather not do.

As for transition options, try http://downloads.wordpress.org/plugin/rotatingtweets.zip

I've limited the options for the widgets to try and keep things manageable, but if you use the shortcode, you can try everything available at http://jquery.malsup.com/cycle/browser.html via something like

    [rotatingtweets screen_name='mpntod' rotation_type='toss']

Let me know if there's an effect you'd particularly like me to add to the widget! :-)

Thanks Martin, will try it out.

The reason I mentioned the buttons is because I was trying to wrangle with this "Tweet Rotator 1.0" which has the buttons before I found your plugin:
    http://ifixblogs.com/

What's nice about them is that it shows you at a glance where you are in the rotation.

But again, these are extras as far as I'm concerned. Plugin's great as is.

    Ooh. That is nice.

I've managed to make prev/next work - as per latest development copy - http://downloads.wordpress.org/plugin/rotatingtweets.zip (although the options to switch it on and off are not yet there!).

I'll look at the pager option to see if I can do something similar to http://ifixblogs.com/

I've played around some more - and done the rotating dots thing.

I'm not wholly convinced, but it was quite fun making it work!

    Hi Martin,

Love the plugin, but need a bit of help... I'd like to omit the "from" meta line, but it doesn't seem to be working. Any help is appreciated!

    Cheers.

    The site is
    http://keithpaul.net/

    And the shortcode is
    [rotatingtweets screen_name='kemipa' include_rts='1' tweet_count='1' show_meta_screen='0' show_meta_via='0' show_meta_timestamp='0']

There's a mistake in the instructions. It should say:

    [rotatingtweets screen_name='kemipa' include_rts='1' tweet_count='1' show_meta_screen_name='0' show_meta_via='0' show_meta_timestamp='0']

    Sorry about that.
