I have created two user groups. Two student groups that should only see certain categories, posts and or pages. When I am under Role > Categories I can select a Role per Category. I do not see how that is useful as I just want user group a to be able to see categories a-c and to see these categories in the menu. How to do this?

Never mind. I had to specifically assign a category role per user group. After that the user group appeared in the list whenever I assigned it a certain role for a certain category and or sub category
