There are many times when you need the IDs displayed alongside the content in tables - particularly if you are looking for a particular ID to cross reference against something when bug hunting
More common "user" requirement times include when you have multi-language sites and the translators are not geeks, but need access to IDs to check against task lists and so on.
My productivity (new content) dropped around 20% when 2.5 dropped the ID display because of all the optical contortions needed to scroll, hover, look-down to check ID, and so forth,
This change was a prime example of an uncalled removal of a useful item. WordPress should have polled the userbase regarding this one - and I don't mean just here on dot org, but also over on dot com too.
+1 for bring it back into core
