    Hi there,

First let me say that this is an excellent plugin! Especially so when you're building a website for clients or friends who don't really know how to resize pictures before uploading.

I do have one feature request though: add an option to specify the image quality after resizing, e.g. 60% for JPEG pictures should be good enough.

I noticed that when it resizes the image to 1024x1024 pixels (default WordPress "large" image dimension), the image size is slightly more than 1MB. This is for just a normal picture taken using a digital camera. Surely at 60% JPEG quality it can go down to 100KB - 200KB in size.

That should make it much faster for the user to upload the image, and much faster for visitors to download the image, with barely any noticeable difference in image quality.

    Thanks!

Exactly! I have lots of clients in the same position and trying to tell them how to use a graphics program is a nightmare.

Image quality is something I did think of when I first uploaded the plugin but it looked like the quality was hardcoded to 100. I'll have another look though, there may be a way around it.

    Thanks for your comments.

Good news silverks, I've managed to add a "resize quality" option to the media settings page that will allow you to set the resize quality. The resize quality will default to 80.

The code is complete. I just need to test it tomorrow and then upload the new version of this plugin to the WordPress repository.

That is indeed great news! Let me know if you need help with testing.

The new version is live now.

There is a problem that I identified in the plupload system. The default setting is to use html5 to resize and upload the image. This only really works on Firefox and Chrome.

I'm working on a tweak now that will try sniff the users browser and if it doesn't look like the browser is Firefox or Chrome then it will switch to the Flash mode which will resize images even on IE or Safari. The downside is drag and drop does not work in Flash mode so I'm going to add a new setting so that the user can disable the Flash workaround.
