Relocate Upload is a nice plugin, but for my needs, it’s missing just a little bit.

You can upload media to your choice of pre-defined folders — fine. However, I’d like to be able to use a folder as a place to store frequently-used items, say, headshots of local officials.

I do not see a way that this plugin allows me to browse to that Headshots folder. Instead, media uploaded to non-standard folders are handled as if they had been uploaded to the WP default — they’re all in the long list of files in the Media Library.

I’d like to be able to place frequently used items into a folder, then be able to access them quickly and separately through the Write Post’s media interface.

Am I missing something here, because my tests do not show a way to do that.

  • nice idea.

how about in the media library, next to the “show all dates” drop down and Filter button i add in a menu of folders to filter to?

i’ll check to see if that’s ‘hookable’ in the WP code…

strictly speaking there isn’t a way to hook a new menu in there, but i can HACK it using JS, and then the list of items can be filtered using the usual add_filter(“request”)

i’ll have a go asap and let you know how it goes

i have knocked something up in the current ‘development version’ available at

    (version 0.12)

let me know what you think.

    Tremendous!

It works like a charm and it’s simple enough to understand (many of the folks who write in our system are not technically savvy).

Beautiful job — it’s a long-missing piece of the media management pie for WordPress as a CMS.

    Many, many thanks!

    🙂 hurray

    i’m now adding another function!

i have a site with lots of ‘legacy’ files FTP’d up that aren’t in the WP media library, so i’ve added a ‘import existing files into library’ function.

(hmm, i think i might hive it off into a separate ‘import’ plugin.)

i’m basically mad keen on the media library functions in WP as it is now, and want to hang lots of things off it. i’m writing a separate plugin that tracks downloads/use of library items and shows you stats in the media library list.

Great idea! Can’t wait to test it.

Also, if you’re mad about photos, you may want to add the brand new (added to the WP plugins database today) Scissors plugin to your installation. It allows you to crop and resize a photo right from the Add Media window. I’ve set it up and it’s excellent.

Thanks for an excellent plugin that just made several journalists’ lives a hell of a lot easier!

thanks – i just used scissors. cute!
