In the KB and support forum posts here, references are made to viewing/changing the "search results template". Where is it?
Also, what is the specific test to make sure Relevanssi is providing search results over the default WP search tool?

Search results template is the template in your theme that handles the search results. In many cases it's search.php, but it can be part of index.php or something else.
Enable custom search snippets - if you see them, Relevanssi works, if you don't, it doesn't.
