[Plugin: Relevanssi – A Better Search] Slow Search Results

    Hello,

    I recently began working on an existing website that has Relevanssi installed. The plugin is great, and I love the amount of customizability with the functionality.

    However, our results are very slow. When you search, it sometimes takes more than a full minute to return the results page.

    Testing right now, I noticed the GET call of http://domain.com/?s=what-is-searched took 32s to load, with the following breakdown:

    1.04s Connecting
17.73s Waiting
13.16s Receiving

+32.77s 'DOMContentLoaded' (event)
+39.49s 'load' (event)

    The site itself has been having issues with loading, but the search seems to be the worst culprit by far. I doubt Relevanssi is the sole cause of the slow search results (or if it’s even a factor at all), but I figured I would see if anyone else experienced similar problems.

    Any ideas?

    How large is the database?

    About 700 Posts.

    Well, that should not be a problem then at all. Relevanssi can be slow at times, but it should definitely not be that slow with that kind of load.

    That was my thinking. Perhaps it is the theme. Do you have any tips on optimizing? How is the caching within the plugin?

    I don’t recommend using the Relevanssi caching. It’s probably only going to make matters worse. Have you tried YSlow or Google Page Speed?

    I think the overall issues with speed are probably what is causing the lag in the search. I am in the process of building a new theme, and that should take care of a lot of excess calls that were putting strain on the server.

    Hi,

    Firstly, thanks for a fantastic plugin!

    Like Ryan I am having serious problems with slow search results. It has worked fine until the last few updates. The site itself doesn’t have any speed issues, and when I uninstall the plugin the default WordPress search results appear instantly, but obviously aren’t very relevant!

    Any ideas what could be causing this problem?

    Hmm, nothing particularly slow in the last updates, just small bug fixes. Hard to say what’s making it slow.
