• Hey all, I just created my first WordPress plugin. Posting it here in case anyone else finds it useful.

    Add Meta Keyword Tag

It outputs meta keyword tags. For single posts it can create keywords from categories names or Bunny’s Technorati Tags (or any custom field with keywords/tags). For other, non-single post pages, it can optionally output a predefined list of keywords.

I’ve just released version 1.1, which can also generate keywords from tags used in the SimpleTags plugin.

    Hi,
can your plugin be used for internal tags too?
I’m trying to get internal tag going with now success. (I’m using Jerome’s Keywords which I think is a great plugin. But somewhere I have something wrong and can display the tags, but can’t link them.

Can I use your plugin for that??

No, it can’t. My plugin takes tags you have from other tagging plugins, and using them (and your categories if any) generates a meta keyword tag for the head of the document. It doesn’t actually display the tags anywhere in the page – the keywords metatag is used for search engine optimization.

Of course, I’d love to hear any suggestions people have for my plugin.

the keywords metatag is used for search engine optimization.

No it isn’t. It hasn’t been used by any of the major search engines for ages. It’s pretty much irrelevant now, except for the occasional minor directory.

Well, I agree, the major search engines pay close to, if not, zero attention to it. Some people still use it for SEO, and thats what I meant.

Well, as much as you may think using keywords is “old” or passe, Adsense depends upon them to provide relevant ads on a site.

And again, I say, Google Adsense is definitley using keywords – haven’t you people even looked at Adsense?

And you are wrong about SEO and keywords. Search engines are definitely using keywords, because I can see how it affects my stats, so you’re wrong there.

Search engines are not doing much with images, because I have stuff showing up from over a year ago in image searches that hasn’t been on my sites for months.

Was there ever an update to this plugin? The site now seems to be dead.

“And you are wrong about SEO and keywords. Search engines are definitely using keywords, because I can see how it affects my stats, so you’re wrong there.”

Yeah? Which ones? According to what I’ve read elsewhere, only Teoma (ask jeeves) still takes them into account but because they’re such a minor player, I think we can safely assume that the keyword meta tag is as dead as disco. See this for instance:

Or have you got evidence that states otherwise?

“Hey all, I just created my first WordPress plugin.”

That a bad link you’ve given us here. All I get is some rubbish which says something like “This page is parked free, courtesy of GoDaddy.com”.
