[Plugin: Recent Posts with Excerpts] Can’t install; plug-in references code that doesn’t exist

WordPress MU 4.7 throws the following error when trying to activate this plug-in:
Fatal error: Class 'WP_Widget' not found in /long-path/recent-with-excerpts-widgets.php on line 41I have other widgets that are running.
