Search function always returns a 404 page. Why is this happening?

What kind of permalinks are you using? You need to enable fancy permalinks for the search and category pages to work correctly.

Sorry this isn't in the FAQ, we're going to publish an update soon.

I am using fancy perms. Here is an example construct of the URL structure, upon a search:

    http://www.mydomain.biz/faqs/search/keyword

    It goes to 404.

I figured it out. The Q&A plug-in requires that the page be named exactly 'faqs' and mine is (was) named 'faq'.

Renaming the permalink corrected the issue. Moving forward however, I think there should be some flexibility with this.

    Thanks for your help!

    Hi
I am getting a 404 error as well.
I have tried changing my permalink settings to post name in the dashboard but it still does not work. Do I need to add or do something else?
My page is named the default Faqs.

FYI, the page Faqs is NOT the same as faqs when deling with php

Thanks jahrl, but I have checked the page name and it is in lower case.
I still get "The resource you are looking for has been removed, had its name changed, or is temporarily unavailable."

The URL I end up with when trying a search for 'venue hire' is:
    http://www.theportlandarms.co.uk/wp/faqs/search/venue+hire

    Is that correct?

@pmagony: You can change the slug for the FAQ page in the plugin settings. It defaults to 'faqs' and offers to create that page for you if it doesn't already exist, but you can set it to match any page on your site where you place the FAQ homepage shortcode.

My search isn't generating the URL right either. I have my wordpress install at pomona.jeremyjon.es/wordpress and the site homepage is set different than the directory at pomona.jeremyjon.es

The search is generating links from the wordpress install URL, so, for example, http://pomona.jeremyjon.es/wordpress/faq/search/calcium which doesn't work. It can't find the page.

If I remove "wordpress" from the URL, making it http://pomona.jeremyjon.es/faq/search/calcium then it works perfectly, displaying the search results for the word. Also, I can go to http://pomona.jeremyjon.es/wordpress/faq and it redirects to http://pomona.jeremyjon.es/faq perfectly. I don't get why it won't redirect from the search though.

Any tips on getting this to work right?

    Thanks.
    Jerry

    Hello,

Tried to install it locally with wamp.

Search is not working, I get an error message: "The requested URL /mydomain.com/faqs/search/test was not found on this server."

Any idea on how to fix this ?

Thanks in advance and congrats for the plugin !

I have the exact problem as jeryj. I installed WordPress on another folder. I'm trying to find out where I can redirect the search. In the mean time, I've disabled search. Thanks in advance.

Updating to the newest version of the plugin (1.0.6.2) fixed it for me.
