Remove PodPress *version* from footer (9 posts)

    Hi everyone!

I'm using the latest version of podpress and I'm impressed with it: really a great product.
However, I would like to remove the version number which it inserts in the footer: it's perfectly fine to have "Powered by PodPress" in it, but i'd prefer to hide its version, in order to prevent script kiddies from trying to exploit a known vulnerability before I'm able to update or disable the plugin.
Moreover, I don't see any reason why the version should be there at all.

Thanks for the great plugin and greetings from Italy!

    Hi,

currently exists no option to switch that part of the footer line off. But you can disable the whole podPress footer (see general options of podPress).
If you want to modify the code on your own then look into the podpress.php line 875.

    Regards,
    Tim

  3. All plugins listed on wordpress.org should default to NOT showing author tags in the footer. They should always be opt IN.

    Read http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/about/

There are only a few restrictions

    1. Your plugin must be GPLv2 Compatible.
    2. The plugin most not do anything illegal, or be morally offensive (that’s subjective, we know).
    3. You have to actually use the subversion repository we give you in order for your plugin to show up on this site. The WordPress Plugins Directory is a hosting site, not a listing site.
    4. The plugin must not embed external links on the public site (like a "powered by" link) without explicitly asking the user's permission.
    5. If you don’t specify a v2-compatible license, what you check in is explicitly GPLv2

The author(s) need to address this if it's true.

@Ipstenu: Thanks for the hint. I will adjust that in the next version of podPress.

  5. No prob :) Usually people do that by an honest mistake.

    Thanks for your reply, Tim!

I just removed the version number, but I left the rest. I'm happy to help promote podpress, it's awesome!

BTW, I'm one of the two hosts on Italy's current #1 podcast on iTunes, EasyApple.

Is there a way to disable the podpress footer just on certain pages? I'm using a special template for this page that does very little, so adding a "disable" function before wp_footer() would be possible.
