    Hello,

Some friends using and iPhone and an iPod have had difficulty downloading the most recent episode of our podcast, Lula's A Pub (episode #4). They showed me their devices as they tried to do so.

One gave an error message along the lines that she could not download this video. Our podcast episode is not a video, it is an audio file (m4a enhanced audio).

The other gave the message that the iPod was not allowed to download the file.

When I attempted to download the episode myself using iTunes and an older iPod nano, I had no problems. Is there something embedded in my file that might be preventing them from downloading (an incorrect tag) or is the error on their end (and if so any suggestions)?

The post for the episode is here:

The location for the episode file is here:

    Hi,

you are maybe not the only one with this problem, see:
    https://discussions.apple.com/message/11857233
    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/2782392
    http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=1090554

It is maybe a problem in the modern iOS versions. Maybe something has changed in the requirement regarding the encoding of the m4a/aac file.

Is there something embedded in my file that might be preventing them from downloading (an incorrect tag)

Yes, maybe. Maybe try different encoding settings (a different bitrate, etc.). Or maybe try a different encoder software.

But I'm not able to give you better suggestions. I have no experience with producing m4a files.

    Regards,
    Tim

Thanks for these links, they were very helpful.

After posting I had started doing some more research myself and began to suspect that it was a problem on the Apple side of things. But the links you found were more helpful than what I found myself.

Strangely, the friends in question could download the first three episodes without any problem, just not the fourth episode. All four episodes were produced the same way, with the same software and bitrate settings.

If I find out additional information I'll post it here just in case others run into the same problem.

    Thanks again for your help.
