Version 8.8.8.5 Just playing around with this. I created a category called podcast, enabled a feed. I also configured the top portion of Podpress/itunes section. Enabled change and pinged days ago my old podcast feed was http://eastmosquitoville.com/podcast

Problem- in each of those and in my post I see the little picture I wanted to use as artwork. When I subscribe with itunes as a preview I see the 1st frame of the episode of a podcast not my artwork.

Your old feed should contain the <itunes:new-feed-url> tag. It should contain the URL of the new podcast Feed (see http://www.apple.com/itunes/podcasts/specs.html#changing). In your case e.g. <itunes:new-feed-url>http://eastmosquitoville.com/?feed=rss2&cat=11</itunes:new-feed-url>.

about the issue with the artwork:
I have looked into the source code of your new podcast feed and I would that you have set up all things right. A small image as the RSS image and a bigger one for iTunes (http://www.apple.com/itunes/podcasts/specs.html#image).
I don't know exactly why the iTunes software doesn't show one of these Feed images. It seems that the Feed image is only for the iTunes store (http://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/eastmosquitoville/id359400461). In the iTunes client software, you can see also pictures like in the Cover Flow view but these pictures seem to be cover pictures or a preview images of the last audio or video file which has such a picture. If there is no media file with a cover picture then iTunes shows in the Cover Flow view only its place holder symbol for podcasts.

Maybe it is a good idea to add a cover image to the ID3 tags of each audio file and set the right key frame for each video file in your feed to see the right cover picture in that Cover Flow view or the other views which are showing the last episode of a feed if hover with the cursor over the picture or if you click on it.
