Photonic Gallery for Flickr, Picasa, SmugMug, 500px, Zenfolio and Instagram
[Plugin: Photonic Gallery for Flickr, Picasa, SmugMug and 500px] wp gallery: no slideshows (10 posts)

    I'm now experimenting with the native WP Gallery using Photonic, and all I can get is a display of the image thumbnails, no slideshow (and no links from thumbnails), no matter how I adjust the settings under the Photonic > WP Galleries tab. When I simply insert Gallery in shortcode the uploaded images display with link to media library items, but I'd like to use Photonic to introduce a slideshow and can't so far...ideas?

    Many thanks,

    Jim P.

    Probably a script conflict at your end (I will need a URL to see what you mean). Slideshows are meant to work in the manner shown here: http://aquoid.com/news/plugins/photonic/wp-galleries/.

    Thanks; see here for post, using the following:

    [gallery type='default' style='strip-below' fx='fade' slideshow_height='500' columns='3' thumb_width='75' thumb_height='75' thumbnail_size='thumbnail' slide_size='thumbnail' timeout='4000' speed='1000']

    Photonic shortcode at bottom; right above it is simple Gallery shortcode. (There's also MapPress shortcode, but I experienced the problem without MapPress nor default Gallery shortcode inserted yet.)

    Many thanks,

    Jim

    Do you have any plugin that handles formatting of your HTML? When I look at your page's source code, I see this:

    $j('ul.photonic-post-gallery-content').each(function() {
    					var parent = $j(this).parent();
    									 $j("
    <ul id='" + this.id + "-nav' class='photonic-post-gallery-nav fix'></ul>
    <p>").insertAfter($j(this));</p>
    <p>

    This is horribly horribly wrong because it inserts line breaks within JS strings, puts in arbitrary paragraph tags within JS code etc. essentially breaking the JavaScript. What Photonic puts in is a simple line:

    $j("<ul id='" + this.id + "-nav' class='photonic-post-gallery-nav fix'><?php echo $script; ?></ul>").insertAfter($j(this));

    You either have a plugin for doing formatting of your posts or your theme includes some code of this sort.

    So, I did remove a <p> .. </p> around the Photonic code as I assumed this could be a problem (though of course it does read the shortcode), though it didn't help...when I see it in my HTML window it's simply the shortcode I displayed. I don't have a plugin that formats posts; additionally I'm running Striking theme, and have not experienced this problem with other shortcode (and we have plenty here and there).

    If there are other steps I can take to help you diagnose I'm happy to do so...I do understand the problem at least now...

    Remember as well my previous query, so at least in the case of linking to a Picasa album your Photonic shortcode is doing fine!

    and have not experienced this problem with other shortcode (and we have plenty here and there)

    This isn't a problem with a shortcode, and I can think of several ways in which different agents could mess this up. Basically this is a sequence that is followed while loading posts:

    1. Your post is retrieved from the DB. This includes static HTML, but not dynamic shortcodes.
    2. The retrieved post is scanned for shortcodes, and the shortcodes are executed. Some shortcodes print HTML, but some shortcodes print JS in addition to HTML(like Photonic)
    3. Other filters for formatting etc. are executed.

    Now, it might so happen that in step #3 above some filter goes aggressive and starts formatting JS code. This can be due to something as simple as your JS containing HTML tags (the script that Photonic inserts above does have

      and other tags). The presence of such tags might trigger this block to be treated as HTML instead of JS, and that might cascade further.

      If your other plugins don't insert any JS that includes HTML tags (e.g. on your Picasa page Photonic's JS doesn't include any HTML tags), those pages might be safe.

      You might want to ask your theme author if he/she does something with "wpautop", because that would be a likely culprit.

    Not sure whats up. I am having trouble getting my gallery to show. Here is what I did.

    I have a Zenfolio group called 'Limelight'. I installed Photonic. I created a page. On this page I have the shortcode:

    [gallery type='zenfolio' view='Limelight' style='strip-below' fx='fade' slideshow_height='500' columns='3' thumb_width='75' thumb_height='75' thumbnail_size='thumbnail' slide_size='thumbnail' timeout='4000' speed='1000']

    I also tried:
    [gallery type='zenfolio' view='Limelight']
    [gallery type='zenfolio' view='f436161866']
    &
    [gallery type='zenfolio' view='f436161866' style='strip-below' fx='fade' slideshow_height='500' columns='3' thumb_width='75' thumb_height='75' thumbnail_size='thumbnail' slide_size='thumbnail' timeout='4000' speed='1000']

    Page is blank when I view it. It DOES show the text I typed above the shortcode as a test however. Is there a place I am supposed to put in my Zenfolio ID?

    @SmartGuys,
    I will definitely help you, but as per the forum rules can you please start your own thread. The original thread applies to WP galleries, while your post is about Zenfolio galleries.
